What Items Junk Removal Companies Can and Can't Take

Most junk removal companies have restrictions on what they'll haul. Here's exactly what Ponderosa Hauling can and can't remove β€” and what to do with the items we can't take.

One of the most common questions we get before a junk removal job is: "Can you take this?" The short answer is: we can take almost anything non-hazardous. But there are a handful of items we're legally required to decline β€” and it's important to know this before booking.

What We CAN Remove

We handle just about anything two people can safely lift and load:

  • Furniture: sofas, mattresses, bed frames, dressers, tables, chairs
  • Appliances: washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers
  • Electronics: TVs, computers, monitors, printers
  • Construction debris: drywall, lumber, flooring, roofing materials
  • Yard waste: branches, brush, dirt, sod
  • Hot tubs and above-ground pools
  • Exercise equipment
  • General household junk and clutter
  • Estate cleanout contents
  • What We CANNOT Remove

Mississippi law and disposal regulations prohibit us from hauling:

  • **Chemicals and solvents** β€” paint thinner, cleaning agents, pesticides
  • **Paints and stains** β€” latex or oil-based
  • **Asbestos-containing materials** β€” common in older homes (pre-1980s)
  • **Fuel and oils** β€” gasoline, motor oil, propane tanks
  • **Pool chemicals** β€” chlorine, acid
  • **Medical waste** β€” needles, medication
  • **Batteries** (in large quantities)
  • What To Do With Hazardous Items

Harrison County and Jackson County both run periodic household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events where residents can drop off paints, chemicals, and other restricted items for free. Check your county's website for the next scheduled event.

For propane tanks, most hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowe's) offer exchange programs. For old paint, many local donation centers and ReStores accept usable paint donations.

    The Practical Takeaway

If you're doing a full cleanout and you're not sure whether something qualifies, just call us at 228-356-6707 before your appointment. We'd rather help you figure it out in advance than show up and have to leave items behind.
